Jack M. Horner
Jack M. Horner, 82, of Kearney died Friday, November 7, 2008 at his home in Kearney, following an extended illness.
Funeral services will be Monday, November 10, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Kearney. Rev. Gary Main and Rev. Rebecca Hjelle will officiate. Burial with military rites provided by the Kearney American Legion Post # 52, V.F.W. Post # 759 and the U.S. Navy Military Honors Team will be at Kearney Cemetery. Visitation is planned Sunday from 4:00 - 6:00 p.m. at the Horner-Lieske-Horner Mortuary in Kearney. Memorials are suggested to the First United Methodist Church, University of Nebraska Foundation for the Horner Family Scholarship established at the University of Nebraska at Kearney or the Kearney Humane Society. He was born August 11, 1926 in Grand Island, NE to Harold and Pauline (Scott) Horner. He grew up in the Riverdale, Amherst, and Miller areas then graduated from Kearney High School in 1944. He is a veteran of WWII serving in the United States Navy. He attended Kearney State College then Graduated from San Francisco College of Mortuary Science and began his career in 1951.
He began working as a Funeral Director at the Anderson-Johnson Mortuary in 1952. On June 6, 1953 he married Waunita Frank in Chapman, NE. He eventually became owner of the funeral home and the name was changed to Anderson-Johnson-Horner then Horner-Lieske Mortuary and eventually Horner-Lieske-Horner Mortuary when his son joined him in the business in 1981. His first wife died in 1976 and on November 26,1977 he married R. Kay (Livgren) Sidner in Kearney, Nebraska.
He is a member of the First United Methodist Church in Kearney, American Legion Post #52, V.F.W. Post #759, Golden K Kiwanis Club, Kearney Elks Lodge #984 (Past Exalted Ruler), Tehama Shrine and Scottish Rite of Hastings and Rob Morris Masonic Lodge in Kearney. He is currently serving on Kearney Humane Society Board. He has been involved in many organizations, clubs and community projects through the years, including the Rowe Sanctuary Board and the Kearney Chamber of Commerce.

He is preceded in death by his first wife and daughter Jill in 2003.
