Assistant Funeral Director Registration
The Assistant Funeral Director (AFD) is required to be under the supervision of a Nebraska-licensed funeral director. The AFD is permitted to lead and oversee all parts of funeral service as allowed by the master license, EXCEPT, the practice of embalming. The AFD may assist with embalming but should not be the sole embalmer, nor should they be left unattended to perform the art of embalming.

The application fee is $90 if you are employed by a member of the NeFDA or $120 if you are not employed by a member of the NEFDA.
AFD applications are based on supervisors, not locations. If your funeral home has multiple locations under one supervisor, you only need to complete one application. However, if you are employed by more than one funeral home and work under multiple supervisors, you will need to complete a separate application & payment fee per supervisor. AFDs are forbidden to practice as an AFD until a new AFD registration is issued.
All AFD registrations issued by the NeFDA will expire on February 1 of each even-numbered year.
During the 24 months prior to the registration expiration date, each AFD must pass the Nebraska AFD Jurisprudence Exam (Score of 75% or above).
